Everyone has dreamt about running away at some point. Breaking free from the confines of societies high standards, getting lost somewhere in between pine trees and majestic waterfalls, or going to a far away place where no one knows your name. Getting the chance to spend months exploring a beautiful, unspoiled part of the earth sounded like a dream.

I searched and searched for ways to make this dream become a reality and I was lead to an active volcano with dramatic canyons, gushing geysers, and endless forests located in Wyoming. More commonly known as Yellowstone National Park.

Now whether you’re a free spirit searching for the next adventure, a college student trying to find a summer job, a retiree looking for something to do, or if you’re like me, just a regular ol’ gal, that wanted to change up their daily life then I urge you to spend a summer working in a national park.

I remember receiving an email that I got the job. I couldn’t even fathom the thought that I, an ordinary Californian girl, am given the opportunity to live in a park that’s featured on multiple National Geographic covers, the park where people travel from all around the world just to see, and the park that I’ve seen on TV many times.

I spent hours researching all the trails I was going to explore and the tours I wanted to do. I didn’t even realize how much this park was going to change my life. I traded out a swimming pool for hot springs, mud pots, geysers, and lakes. I traded out neighbors for bison, elk, and wolves. I traded average summer nights for weekends camping under the northern lights and meteor showers. I left behind a routine based, average lifestyle for an eye opening, life changing experience.

Yellowstone welcomed me with open arms and brought me together with like-minded people whom I spent off days with by skydiving, white water rafting, horseback riding through canyons, soaking in hot springs, swimming in lakes, camping under the stars and exploring trails and waterfalls.
